INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINVELOPE⌐
NOTE ON DEMO VERSION
The demo version is a full working copy with the exception of
having a 1 minute delay built in after executing the print
command. You may cancel the print job and exit the demo by
clicking the 'OK' in the delay message box and then clicking some
other option from Winvelope's menu bar or closing Winvelope's
window.
To order a registered copy, send a check or money-order for
$20.00 to:

Introduction:
Winvelope is a Windows 3.0 compatible utility that allows the
user to capture an address from any Windows document or screen and
then print the address on an envelope using an Hewlett Packard
compatible laser printer.
Winvelope was developed using the Oriel graphics based
batch language that accesses the Windows Graphics Device
Interface (GDI). The included script file manipulates and
controls the Windows Write and Recorder programs with macros
to accomplish the task of automating envelope printing.
Oriel is a trademark of The LeBlond Group, Inc.
Winvelope is not manufactured, endorsed, or supported by The LeBlond
Group, Inc.
Features:
* Capture an address from any Windows application screen
and print it on a business size envelope.
* Manually input an address on the fly.
* Access an address book setup for Windows Cardfile to
select an address for printing.
* Optionally print envelope with or without a return
address.
* Supports HP compatible laser printers with both center
and side feed manual paper trays.
(If you have an HP compatible laser printer and find that
the text is not lining up correctly on the envelope, don't
despair, this should be correctable with a little tinkering
on the margin settings in the template files!)
System Requirements:
* 80286 or faster CPU.
* Windows 3.0 running in standard or 386 mode.
* Windows WRITE.EXE installed in the Windows
subdirectory.
* Windows RECORDER.EXE installed in the Windows
subdirectory.
* Windows CARDFILE.EXE installed in the Windows
subdirectory.
* Hewlett Packard compatible laser printer.
Installation:
1. Create a directory on your harddisk for the
Winvelope files or use the Windows subdirectory and
copy all files from the Winvelope floppy disk to
your harddisk. Add this directory to the path statement
in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
2. Install Winvelope in Windows Program Manager (or
substitute) using the following command line:
[d:][path] WINVELOP.EXE
where [d:] is the drive containing the Winvelope
files.
3. You may want to launch Winvelope as an icon when
you start Windows so that it is always available.
To do this, modify the load= statement in the
[Windows] section of the WIN.INI file to include
WINVELOP.EXE
[Windows]
load=[d:][path] WINVELOP.EXE
Operation:
When you want to print an envelope, highlight the
address on any Windows application screen with the
mouse or keyboard and copy it to the Windows
Clipboard.
Double click the Winvelope icon to access the
utility, (You may need to restore your application
window if you have been running it maximized in
order to access the Winvelope icon).
Winvelope will require a minor setup the first time
you use it in order to setup the printer. Select
Setup from the menu bar and follow the instructions
on the screen.
If you intend on printing return addresses you will
also have to activate the Return Address Setup.
When the setup is completed, place a business size
envelope in the MANUAL FEED TRAY of your laser
printer and click on one of the two print option
buttons. This may also be done from the menu bar.
It will take 45 seconds to a minute for the script
to cycle through the macros which changes your
printer setting to landscape, prints the envelope,
and returns the printer to portrait mode. DO NOT
ATTEMPT ANY INPUT WHILE THE PRINTING PROCESS IS
TAKING PLACE UNTIL WINVELOPE HAS MINIMIZED TO AN
ICON AND ALL SCRIPT ACTION HAS STOPPED!
The PCL / HP Laserjet printer driver MUST be the
default printer in your Windows Control Panel setup.
When finished, Winvelope will minimize itself to an
icon again for later use. You may terminate
Winvelope by choosing Exit from the menu bar.
Summary Steps of Operation:
1. If working in a Windows wordprocessor or other
application where you have an address on screen that you
wish to print on a business size envelope, CAPTURE the
address and COPY it to the CLIPBOARD.
2. Activate Winvelope from Program Manager, minimized icon,
or any other custom method you may have setup.
3. If you have not SETUP your printer type and RETURN
ADDRESS option previously, do so now.
4. Place a BUSINESS SIZE envelope in the MANUAL FEED TRAY of
your printer and select the print option from the menu
bar or 'MOUSE BUTTONS' on the laser printer graphic. It
will take about 45 seconds to a minute, depending on your
hardware to complete the print routine. DO NOT ATTEMPT
keyboard or mouse input until Winvelope has minimized to
an icon and all script activity has stopped!
5. To manually input an address on the fly, select NOTEPAD
from the menu bar and follow the screen instructions.
Always select 'NO' when prompted to save the notepad file
after you have copied the address to the CLIPBOARD and
EXIT or CLOSE NOTEPAD.
6. You may want to access the address book feature, which
launches Windows CARDFILE and a file named ADBOOK.CRD.
This option allows you to search, retrieve and store new
addresses in a permanent file. Again COPY the correct
cardfile address to CLIPBOARD and EXIT or CLOSE CARDFILE.
If you've added a new address, be sure to SAVE the file
before you EXIT. If you already have a CARDFILE address
database setup you can change its filename to ADBOOK.CRD
and place it in the Winvelope subdirectory.
If you are using some other Windows database or address
book, contact me about modifying Winvelope for a small
fee to use it instead.
Telephone Support:
I prefer to answer support questions via Compuserve Mail,
(71620,24). If you absolutely require phone support, please
restrict calls to the hours of 7 - 9 PM Eastern Time, as I
have small children who go to bed early. If I start getting
support calls from the west coast at midnight my wife, whose
only interest in Windows is to get me to clean them, will
banish me to the garage!
