  5. NOTE ON DEMO VERSION

  7. The demo version is a full working copy with the exception of
  8. having a 1 minute delay built in after executing the print
  9. command.  You may cancel the print job and exit the demo by
  10. clicking the 'OK' in the delay message box and then clicking some
  11. other option from Winvelope's menu bar or closing Winvelope's
  12. window.

  25. Winvelope is a Windows 3.0 compatible utility that allows the
  26. user to capture an address from any Windows document or screen and
  27. then print the address on an envelope using an Hewlett Packard
  28. compatible laser printer.
  29.  
  30. Winvelope was developed using the Oriel graphics based
  31. batch language that accesses the Windows Graphics Device
  32. Interface (GDI).  The included script file manipulates and
  33. controls the Windows Write and Recorder programs with macros
  34. to accomplish the task of automating envelope printing.
  35.

  41. Features:
  42.  
  43.     * Capture an address from any Windows application screen
  44.       and print it on a business size envelope.
  45.  
  46.     * Manually input an address on the fly.
  47.  
  48.     * Access an address book setup for Windows Cardfile to
  49.       select an address for printing.
  50.  
  51.     * Optionally print envelope with or without a return
  52.       address.
  53.  
  54.     * Supports HP compatible laser printers with both center
  55.       and side feed manual paper trays.
  56.  
  57.       (If you have an HP compatible laser printer and find that
  58.        the text is not lining up correctly on the envelope, don't
  59.        despair, this should be correctable with a little tinkering
  60.        on the margin settings in the template files!)

  62. System Requirements:
  63.  
  64.     * 80286 or faster CPU.
  65.  
  66.     * Windows 3.0 running in standard or 386 mode.
  67.  
  68.     * Windows WRITE.EXE installed in the Windows
  69.       subdirectory.
  70.  
  71.     * Windows RECORDER.EXE installed in the Windows
  72.       subdirectory.
  73.  
  74.     * Windows CARDFILE.EXE installed in the Windows
  75.       subdirectory.
  76.  
  77.     * Hewlett Packard compatible laser printer.
  78.  
  79. Installation:
  80.  
  81.     1.   Create a directory on your harddisk for the
  82.          Winvelope files or use the Windows subdirectory and
  83.          copy all files from the Winvelope floppy disk to
  84.          your harddisk.  Add this directory to the path statement
  85.          in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  86.  
  87.     2.   Install Winvelope in Windows Program Manager (or
  88.          substitute) using the following command line:
  89.  
  90.          [d:][path] WINVELOP.EXE
  91.  
  92.          where [d:] is the drive containing the Winvelope
  93.          files.
  94.  
  95.     3.   You may want to launch Winvelope as an icon when
  96.          you start Windows so that it is always available.
  97.          To do this, modify the load= statement in the
  98.          [Windows] section of the WIN.INI file to include
  99.          WINVELOP.EXE

  102.          load=[d:][path] WINVELOP.EXE
  103.  
  104. Operation:
  105.  
  106.          When you want to print an envelope, highlight the
  107.          address on any Windows application screen with the
  108.          mouse or keyboard and copy it to the Windows
  109.          Clipboard.
  110.  
  111.          Double click the Winvelope icon to access the
  112.          utility, (You may need to restore your application
  113.          window if you have been running it maximized in
  114.          order to access the Winvelope icon).
  115.  
  116.          Winvelope will require a minor setup the first time
  117.          you use it in order to setup the printer.  Select
  118.          Setup from the menu bar and follow the instructions
  119.          on the screen.
  120.  
  121.          If you intend on printing return addresses you will
  122.          also have to activate the Return Address Setup.
  123.  
  124.          When the setup is completed, place a business size
  125.          envelope in the MANUAL FEED TRAY of your laser
  126.          printer and click on one of the two print option
  127.          buttons.  This may also be done from the menu bar.
  128.  
  129.          It will take 45 seconds to a minute for the script
  130.          to cycle through the macros which changes your
  131.          printer setting to landscape, prints the envelope,
  132.          and returns the printer to portrait mode.  DO NOT
  133.          ATTEMPT ANY INPUT WHILE THE PRINTING PROCESS IS
  134.          TAKING PLACE UNTIL WINVELOPE HAS MINIMIZED TO AN
  135.          ICON AND ALL SCRIPT ACTION HAS STOPPED!
  136.  
  137.          The PCL / HP Laserjet printer driver MUST be the
  138.          default printer in your Windows Control Panel setup.
  139.  
  140.          When finished, Winvelope will minimize itself to an
  141.          icon again for later use.  You may terminate
  142.          Winvelope by choosing Exit from the menu bar.
  143.  
  144. Summary Steps of Operation:
  145.  
  146.     1.  If working in a Windows wordprocessor or other
  147.         application where you have an address on screen that you
  148.         wish to print on a business size envelope, CAPTURE the
  149.         address and COPY it to the CLIPBOARD.
  150.  
  151.     2.  Activate Winvelope from Program Manager, minimized icon,
  152.         or any other custom method you may have setup.
  153.  
  154.     3.  If you have not SETUP your printer type and RETURN
  155.         ADDRESS option previously, do so now.
  156.  
  157.     4.  Place a BUSINESS SIZE envelope in the MANUAL FEED TRAY of
  158.         your printer and select the print option from the menu
  159.         bar or 'MOUSE BUTTONS' on the laser printer graphic. It
  160.         will take about 45 seconds to a minute, depending on your
  161.         hardware to complete the print routine.  DO NOT ATTEMPT
  162.         keyboard or mouse input until Winvelope has minimized to
  163.         an icon and all script activity has stopped!
  164.  
  165.     5.  To manually input an address on the fly, select NOTEPAD
  166.         from the menu bar and follow the screen instructions.
  167.         Always select 'NO' when prompted to save the notepad file
  168.         after you have copied the address to the CLIPBOARD and
  169.         EXIT or CLOSE NOTEPAD.
  170.  
  171.     6.  You may want to access the address book feature, which
  172.         launches Windows CARDFILE and a file named ADBOOK.CRD.
  173.         This option allows you to search, retrieve and store new
  174.         addresses in a permanent file.  Again COPY the correct
  175.         cardfile address to CLIPBOARD and EXIT or CLOSE CARDFILE.
  176.         If you've added a new address, be sure to SAVE the file
  177.         before you EXIT.  If you already have a CARDFILE address
  178.         database setup you can change its filename to ADBOOK.CRD
  179.         and place it in the Winvelope subdirectory.
  180.  
  181.         If you are using some other Windows database or address
  182.         book, contact me about modifying Winvelope for a small
  183.         fee to use it instead.

  189.     restrict calls to the hours of 7 - 9 PM Eastern Time, as I

  192.     only interest in Windows is to get me to clean them, will
  193.     banish me to the garage!
